Documentary
Baxter's Hollow
Looking to get its products into more local retail stores, the owner of a local birdseed company set out to create a documentary-style video that incorporated the two elements that made its brand unique and meaningful: a commitment to supplying outdoor enthusiasts like themselves with locally-sourced high-quality birdseed and a mission to support children's hospitals in the fight against childhood illnesses.
The first mission was rooted in a passion for the natural environment that inspired the business. With high-quality birdseed, people can get closer to wildlife and their natural surroundings. The second mission was a deeply personal one—motivated by their daughter’s difficult, but ultimately successful fight with cancer. A portion of proceeds from the business goes directly to help children’s hospitals provide for other families the care and treatment they received.
Prior to the shoot, the client had partnered with a local creative marketing company to develop the story for the video and transfer it to a shot plan. We took that plan and executed it—surveying the family’s beautiful Southern Wisconsin property and fitting the location to the shot plan. We then shot, edited, and completed post-production to prepare the video for use.
The video was shot over the course of a day in and around the owner’s property; the land that had inspired the business. Understanding that this video needed to convey a deeply-held passion for both a product and the spirit of giving, we worked closely with the owner each step of the way; ensuring the final product accurately conveyed the original vision—both in tone and subject matter.
The final video was distributed via DVD to local retailers. Those who carried the product in-store then used the video to play on in-store screens to generate interest among customers.
